Welcome to the Yunnan Province. Feel free to explore the vast wilderness surrounding Tiger Leaping Gorge; walk the ancient streets of Lijiang’s Old Town; and of course taste the wonderful, flavoursome, uplifting tea from one of China’s most renowned provinces. Yunnan borders upon Sichuan, Guizhou, Guangxi and Tibet, and neighbours Burma, Laos, and Vietnam. It has very similar climatic and geographical conditions as Assam in northeast India which, in turn, makes for great tea-growing. One of the most famous teas to originate from the region is Pu’erh Tea, while other Yunnan Black Teas, such as this one, are gradually gaining popularity.
 
The main difference between Dianhong and other Chinese black teas is the amount of fine leaf buds, or "golden tips," present in the dried tea. This striking Yunnan black tea was picked by our grower in Yunnan. The tea is comprised of only the fresh, young leaf tips.
 
This handmade tea has a very high leaf bud content balanced with darker leaves. It is quite tippy, rich with golden buds and delicately twisted leaves. This tea's appearance, long golden buds in a blend shot through with dark, wiry leaves is beautiful but it is in the cup that this tea really shines. It is made by a tea master with the focus being on maximising the complexity of flavour. It produces a brew that is brassy golden orange in colour with a sweet, gentle aroma and no astringency. As well as all the usual spicy, peppery, subtle earthy notes and a sweetness in the finish, this batch has a very clear note of caramel that we love, with a warm honey flavour too. The full-bodied infusion of this loose leaf tea is deep red with molasses-like sweetness, a subtle milkiness and light coppery finish.
 
A gold award product of Yunnan Tea EXPO Fair, this tea is really strong, it could be brewed for 6-7 minutes and with a splash of full cream milk. It never gets bitter, however long it is brewed for. You can also make it Gong Fu style and brew it several times but just for twenty seconds at a time. As you can tell, it is one of Dragon Tea House's best teas. Cultivated on high, misty plateaus, in the red soil of the Lancang River. This tea will never let you down. It is a faithful companion, delivering time and again a beautiful brew, any time, any place, under any condition.
 
Brewing Guide: Use a round tablespoon or about 3-4 grams for 8-12 ounces of water at a temperature right up to boiling. Boiling water will bring the leaves flavors out quickly. To heighten first steep flavors, rinse the leaves briefly with boiling water, pour off, let the leaves steam for a few minutes and re-infuse. We suggest a steep of 3 minutes to experience the variety of flavors offered. Longer steeps of 3 + minutes will give more body to the cup. Leaves will steep multiple times.
