Description:

Gu Zhang is a county in the western part of Hunan Province, China. The area around the Wuling Mountains is ideal for making tea because of the consistent cloud cover. Gu Zhang green tea has a long, rich history in this part of Hunan. This tea is a regional specialty from the Wuling Mountain area of Hunan with a history of more than 2,000 years.

This certified organic tea comes to us from Guzhang County in Hunan, China. It is grown at high altitudes and in an environment where the soil conditions, temperatures and rainfall combine to create a prized tea. It’s a type of Mao Jian tea, sometimes called Hairy Tips or Jade Tips. This tea is harvested in early spring, before the rains, when the leaves are most tender, young and fresh.

This leaf has a dusty grey/green coloration, the classic color of many western China green teas. This color is determined by the varietal of tea plant that it is harvested from, in combination with the strong sunlight that is present early in the season in this part of China. The dry leaves are dark green and silvery and change to bright fresh green when steeped to give a bright, fresh, aromatic green tea! The potent, vegetal aroma translates seamlessly into a fresh, textured cup.
