Description: Cocoa tea or Camellia Ptilophylla has been grown in the Guangdong province since the early days of the Ming Dynasty. The tea is harvested in spring, when the young sprouts possess an intensely fresh flavor. After they are harvested, the tea leaves are set across bamboo trays to dry. This loose-leaf tea has a smooth, delicate, honey-sweet flavor with notes of tangerine. Cocoa tea is a naturally decaffeinated tea plant. It's called cocoa tea because the Camellia Ptilophylla plant contains theobromine, a chemical very prominent in chocolate.
Theobromine, formerly known as xantheose, is a bitter alkaloid of the cacao plant. It is found in chocolate, as well as in a number of other foods, including the leaves of the tea plant, and the kola (or cola) nut. Theobromine has a similar effect than caffeine, but about 10 times weaker. Theobromine has diuretic, stimulant and relaxing effects. Theobromine can lower the blood pressure because it can to dilate blood vessels. Theobromine has stimulant properties, similar to caffeine. Unlike caffeine theobromine does not affect the central nervous system. Theobromine can also relax bronchi muscles in the lungs. Theobromine can be used as cough medicine. Studies indicate that theobromine acts on the vagus nerve, which runs from the lungs to the brain.
Like caffeine, theobromine can help pick you up, and keep you more alert and awake. Its effects occur in a similar manner to caffeine. The boost you get from eating chocolate comes from theobromine. Warm the glass first with boiling water and then pour 200 ml of water (80 degree) over around 3 grams of tea. The tea leaves will start to float on top of the glass. After 4-5 minutes, some leaves will sink down to the bottom of the glass while others remain at the top.
