Beetroot, beta vulgaris, is from the Amaranthaceae family and is related to the ancient grain amaranth. Beetroot has been gaining in popularity as a new super food due to recent studies claiming that beets and beetroot juice can improve athletic performance, lower blood pressure, and increase blood flow.
Beetroot, or table beets are from the same family as sugar beets, but they are genetically and nutritionally different. Sugar beets are white in color and commonly used for extracting sugar and sweetening manufactured foods. Sugar cannot be obtained from beets, which are mostly red in color.

How to use:
With the highest sugar content of all the vegetables, beetroot powder is becoming increasingly popular as a sweetening substitute. Beet juice and beet powder are used to flavor carrot, celery, and other vegetable juices, while also being used to add color to a variety of foods. Commercially they’re also added to salad dressings, spaghetti sauces and tomato products (juices and sauces).
For home use, add this organic beetroot powder to applesauce, brownies, cakes, gravies, pancakes, sauces, soups or smoothies. They also make an excellent alternative food coloring in cakes and cupcakes to make them a bright red velvet color.
Pairs well with cacao.
As a dietary supplement, take 4g (1/2 tbsp) to 8g (1 tbsp) daily, or as directed by a physician.
