Description: In China, the art of delicately scenting teas with freshly gathered flower petals goes back many hundreds of years. Jasmine tea is the most famous of the scented Chinese teas, but there are many others whose ethereal perfume can delight and inspire. Queen's Orchid green tea is scented with the fragrant petals of the orchid. The plant’s beautiful blossoms, eulogised by the great Chinese poets throughout the ages, are picked by hand and expertly layered on the tea leaves until the scent is absorbed. The tea master’s art lies in achieving a perfectly rounded and balanced taste, one that is not overpowered but rather elevated by the sweet, opulent floral notes.

Tea scented with orchid flower has always been quite rare and we are fortunate to be able to carry Queen’s Orchid. Today, only Sichuan province tea makers produce this tea. Queen’s Orchid uses young tea buds grown on Sichuan’s Mengding Mountain and picked at the end of March. This extraordinary green tea embraces the fragrance of orchids, which bloom for only ten days a year. The finished dry leaf appears dense and tight, buds with their spring dawn still present. This is truely an oriental green tea which emobodies the subtle boquet of orchids.

The aroma preserves the gentle refreshing character of both the spring green tea and orchid flowers, sustaining through every infusion. Its liquor maintains a pale green hue, with no sign of unwanted oxidation incurred by heat and moisture during the scenting process. Its orchid scent is penetrating but does not obscure the richness of the master-crafted green tea that serves as its base. The subtle floral bouquet emanating from the tea leaves delivers an especially rich and fragrant experience. A sophisticated green tea for an elegant tea time.

Brewing Guide: Use water that is nearly boiling, never lukewarm. Water should be at least 80 C (176 F). Water that is too hot can cause bitterness. Add roughly 1 tsp. loose tea leaves per teapot (roughly 3 to 5 cups of tea). Steep the tea for 1 to 5 minutes.
