Product Overview
Cheung Hing Tea Hong is a traditional, family-run tea shop located on Queen’s Road West in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong. Founded in Anxi, Fujian in 1895 and relocated to Hong Kong in the 1950s, Cheung Hing became a well-known name among local old-style tea merchants. Through decades of Hong Kong’s post-war recovery, industrial growth, and international transformation, the shop has preserved the atmosphere and craftsmanship of a classic Cantonese tea house supply store.
In post-war Hong Kong, tea shops were more than retail outlets—they were an essential part of daily life. With the rise of yum cha culture and Cantonese dining, there was strong demand for traditional oolong teas. Cheung Hing Tea Hong continues this tradition, carefully selecting, roasting, blending, and aging teas to suit local preferences. The interior still features wooden drawers, large metal tea canisters, weighing scales, and traditional roasting equipment. The current owner, a second-generation successor, learned tea evaluation, roasting techniques, and storage management from his father, emphasizing flavor stability and long-term aging potential over modern packaging trends.
Tieguanyin Tea King is one of Cheung Hing Tea Hong’s signature Anxi oolong teas. Produced from carefully selected high-grade tea leaves, it represents the finest expression of traditional Tieguanyin craftsmanship. The leaves are tightly rolled, heavy, and evenly shaped, displaying a deep green color with a subtle glossy finish. Once brewed, the liquor is bright golden-yellow, clear and luminous. The aroma is elegant and layered, opening with rich orchid-like floral notes, followed by delicate fruity sweetness, creamy undertones, and a lingering honey-like fragrance. The taste is exceptionally smooth, full-bodied, and refreshing, offering a silky mouthfeel with balanced sweetness, vibrant floral character, and a long-lasting sweet aftertaste. The tea remains flavorful through multiple infusions, with each steep revealing new layers of aroma and complexity. This exceptional quality has earned it the designation "Tea King," reflecting its superior leaf selection, craftsmanship, and refined drinking experience.
Cheung Hing Tea Hong Tieguanyin Tea King is not only a premium Anxi oolong but also a reflection of Hong Kong’s long-standing tea culture, combining traditional roasting expertise, careful aging practices, and generations of tea craftsmanship to create a tea of remarkable elegance and lasting character.
Brewing Guide:
Gongfu style brewing is highly recommended. Use approximately 8–10 grams of tea in a 100–120 ml Yixing teapot or gaiwan. Brew with freshly boiled water at 95–100°C. Quickly rinse the leaves once before the first infusion. Steep the first infusion for about 5–8 seconds, then gradually increase the brewing time by several seconds with each subsequent infusion. High-quality Tieguanyin Tea King can comfortably yield 8–10 infusions or more. Short infusions at a high temperature best highlight its elegant orchid aroma, rich body, lingering sweetness, and evolving floral complexity. For Western-style brewing, use a smaller amount of tea and a longer infusion time while maintaining the same water temperature.
