Product Overview

Organic Bai Hao Yin Zhen King Silver Needle White Tea is crafted from the Yunnan Da Bai Hao varietal, harvested during the very first flush of early spring in high-altitude tea regions of Yunnan, particularly in areas of Lincang. These mountainous origins are defined by abundant mist, strong sunlight, and significant day–night temperature differences, creating an ideal environment for slow, steady bud development. As a result, the buds accumulate a richer concentration of natural compounds, giving this tea a depth and structure that sets it apart from more delicate styles of Silver Needle.

Unlike the slender, fine-budded appearance commonly associated with traditional Silver Needle from other regions, Yunnan Da Bai Hao produces naturally larger, more robust buds. Even in early spring, the buds are able to reach a more mature and fully developed state. For this King grade, only the most premium buds are selected—long, thick, perfectly intact, and evenly formed, each covered in dense, silvery-white down. The dry leaves present a striking appearance: plump and straight, with a soft luster and a silvery hue subtly tinged with pale green, conveying both vitality and substance.

This stylistic distinction reflects both the varietal and the picking philosophy. While standard Silver Needle already requires careful bud-only harvesting, this King grade applies an even stricter selection, focusing not just on tenderness but also on the fullness and integrity of each bud. The result is a tea that maintains clarity and elegance while offering greater depth, durability, and complexity across multiple infusions.

Grown under certified organic practices in pristine mountain environments, the tea benefits from clean soil, fresh air, and a balanced ecosystem. The processing follows the traditional white tea approach of natural withering and gentle low-temperature drying, with minimal human intervention. Without rolling or high-heat fixation, the leaves retain their original structure and vitality, allowing the true character of the material and terroir to shine through.

Once infused, the liquor is bright and crystal clear, ranging from pale gold to a gentle apricot tone as it develops. The aroma is refined and natural, led by soft floral notes layered with fresh hay and a delicate underlying sweetness. Rather than being overtly aromatic, it expresses a quiet elegance and purity. On the palate, the tea is immediately smooth and supple, but what distinguishes it is the added body and texture. Compared to conventional early-spring Silver Needle, which often emphasizes lightness and a more ethereal sweetness, this tea offers a fuller, rounder mouthfeel with a subtle viscosity that gently coats the palate. The sweetness builds gradually, spreading from the tip of the tongue and lingering along the sides, while subsequent infusions reveal deeper layers of floral and honeyed nuances. The finish remains clean, soft, and enduring, with a calm, persistent aftertaste.

The tea is notably resilient and can yield many brews, each revealing a different layer of sweetness and fragrance. It performs well in both a gaiwan and a glass vessel; in glassware, the buds slowly descend, then rise and stand upright as they hydrate, creating the graceful visual often described as the “dance of silver needles,” adding a contemplative dimension to the drinking experience.

Brewing Guide: It is recommended to use 3–5 grams of tea with 150–200 ml of water at approximately 85–90°C. This moderate temperature helps preserve the tea’s delicate aromatics while fully expressing its texture. The first infusion can be steeped for 20–30 seconds, with time gradually extended in later infusions.
