Guizhou Province located in China's southwest besides being rich in natural wonders and ethnic minority culture is an important production area for green tea. Tea trees require warm humid weather with alkali soil and Guizhou, located in a subtropical zone has ideal conditions for the production of tea. Their main tea region is situated on a high plateau with excellent growing conditions. The cool temperatures, fog and vast amounts of completely undeveloped areas work together allowing skilled hands to make some of the finest teas in China. Until recently Guizhou's teas have been rarely available outside of the province because all of the best teas were consumed by locals.
Produced in Meitan County in Guizhou Province, Zun Yi Mao Feng Tea is a favorite among Guizhou residents. The best tea is produced in the early spring around the time of China's Qing Ming Festival which falls around the beginning of April. The processing of the leaves includes kneading and rolling like Duyun Maojian Tea. The leaves are covered with white down and when processed are twisted.
When brewed, the tea's liquor has a mellow flavor and its fragrance has hints of honey. As they unfurl during brewing, a complex aroma of butter and nuts is revealed, providing an intriguing counterpart to the nutty, balanced flavor and thick texture. It is a vibrant and rich tea whilst maintaining a bright and light demeanor. The buds and leaves are so delicate and fine from perfect firing and hand-rolling in small batches. It tastes fresh, mellow, making the first sip unforgettable.
