Jianshui Purple Pottery is a traditional Chinese ceramic art form that originates from Jianshui County in Yunnan Province. Jianshui Purple Pottery is made from a mixture of clay, alumina, and other raw materials. The pottery is known for its fine texture, with a particle size of about 280 mesh, and its rich purple glaze. The production process involves hand-throwing the clay into shape, followed by multiple steps of kneading, stretching, pressing, and squeezing to achieve the desired form.
A standout feature of Jianshui Purple Pottery is its unique polishing technique, known as "unglazed polishing," which results in a high-gloss, mirror-like finish. In terms of decoration, it employs an "incised and filled" technique, where designs are carved into the semi-dried clay, and different colored clay materials are then filled into the grooves, creating intricate and colorful patterns.
