This is Japan’s traditional green tea, Sencha, in powder form! It is full of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. Like loose-leaf Sencha, the powder has an astringent and grassy taste.
From the first harvest, a very special sencha from the very old samurai town of Chiran, located at the southern tip of Kagoshima prefecture Japan. It enjoys the perfect combination of clean air, pure water, and fertile soil only found in this area of Japan, which allows for pesticide-free farming. This wonderful Chiran Sencha is from the Yabukita breed green tea plant. Very aromatic and delicious.
This is not matcha, but sencha. Matcha and sencha are two types of green tea that come from the same plant species known as camellia Sinensis, yet they have dramatically different textures. Matcha is a fine, vibrant green powder that has been stone-ground, while sencha is the loose-leaf that has been steamed and rolled. Matcha is made from the youngest part of the plant - the two leaves at the very tip of the shoot. Similar to sencha, these are steamed to preserve their color and nutrients, however, the stems and veins are carefully removed and then the leaves are ground into a fine powder using special granite grinders.
Sencha is made from the stem, shoot, and two or three opened leaves of the green tea plant. This is then steamed, pressed and dried.

To make a nice cup of Japanese green tea add tea leaf to a teapot, add water, and infuse with the following details:
Tea Leaf Amount: 1 small teaspoon (2g)
Water Temperature: 176F (80C)
Water Amount: 7 fl oz (200ml)
Infusion Time: 1 minute
