Description:
Bitter orange is a plant or a tree that belongs to the Rutaceae Family. It is a flowering evergreen tree which bears fruit and is native to tropical Asia but is widely cultivated now in the Mediterranean region.

The bitter orange flower is used for gastrointestinal (GI) disorders including ulcers in the intestine, constipation, diarrhea, blood in feces, drooping (prolapsed) anus or rectum, and intestinal gas. It is also used for regulating fat levels in the blood, lowering blood sugar in people with diabetes, stimulating the heart and circulation, “blood purification,” disorders of liver and gallbladder, kidney and bladder diseases, and as a sedative for sleep disorders. Some people use bitter orange flower and its oil for general feebleness, “tired blood” (anemia), impurities of the skin, hair loss, frostbite, and as a tonic.

The tea contains flavones, the alkaloids synephrine, octopamine, and N-methyltyramine and carotenoids. In Chinese medicine, the flower of the bitter orange is used to increase appetite and to ease chest and stomach pain and vomiting.

Homeopathic practitioners use both the flower to remedy headaches, aid weight loss, indigestion, abdominal pain (epigastric), constipation, dysenteric diarrhea and high blood pressure.

In Latin America, it is prepared as a tonic and used as a laxative, a sedative for insomnia, and to calm anxiety.

Taste: Good-natured with aromas and flavours of orange peel.

Brewing Guide: Use 2 teaspoon (5g) for every 250 ml of water. Steep it in hot water at 95°C for 5 minutes. Suitable for multiple infusions.
