Description: Shaoguan Black Tea is the famous black Tea of Guangdong Province. It is produced in the Shaoguan Region. So is named. Shaoguan is a prefecture-level city in northern Guangdong Province, China, bordering Hunan to the northwest and Jiangxi to the northeast. It is situated at the southern end of the Nan Mountains, which primarily run east-west here, and is marked by numerous erosion-created valleys.
Shaoguan black tea is very famous in southeast China area. The picking season is limited to two seasons, the production cycle is short, the yield is scarce and the tea is precious. It is produced through withering, rolling, fermentation, gross fire, and complete fire. The main characteristics are “strong soup, rich flavor and lasting aroma”; the shape is tight and fine, the body is fat, even and beautiful, the color and luster is bright, the liquor color is red and bright.
When infused, the leaves turn the water a more amber color and the brew has a sweet taste. The tea has a cocoa-like aroma and like most Chinese black teas a sweet aftertaste. The aroma is fresh, pure and rich; floral aroma is prominent; the flavor is strong and sweet; liquor color is red and bright; the taste is strong. The tea has rich inclusions. Adding milk and sugar can make the color, aroma and taste much better.
Brewing Guide: Shaoguan is brewed similarly to any othe black tea, though you'll find experimenting with your own parameters can really bring out the flavors you like the best. You may measure a teaspoon of leaves per 6 to 8 oz of water, rinse the leaves, and then steep in water around 195-205 degrees F. for between 3 and 5 minutes. You'll know where you prefer to end the extraction by the depth of flavor and level of astringency you like best.
