Product Overview

Type: White
Packaging: Bag
Origin: China
Description:

Introducing a very special white tea from Yunnan province in southern China, the birthplace of tea. Tea was first cultivated in this region thousands of years ago and it still makes some pretty amazing teas. This traditional tea-growing region is not known for white tea production. Deep in the heart of Southern Yunnan there exist tea trees unlike any other on Earth. The jungles of Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture and the districts of Simao and Lincang are home to the oldest tea trees in the world. In these regions grow tea trees that range in age from several centuries to over a millennium and our white tea is made from their leaves.

In comparison to our other Chinese white tea from Fujian province, the flavor and aroma of Yunnan white are much more pronounced and long-lasting, as it is made from more mature tea leaves which are harvested from a higher altitude. This high-quality white tea is grown at an altitude of between 1300 - 2000 meters, an ideal position that results in a deliciously complex tea you would not get under different growing conditions.

Yue Guang Bai, or "Moonlight White," is processed similarly to traditional Fujian white teas, but skips the de-enzyming or "kill-green" step and is just slowly air dried. As a result, this tea will change with age, tasting woody, floral, and fruity when young and developing a rich and bold maltiness with age.

This is an air-dried white tea with large, tippy leaves covered with silver down. A tea with a robust flavor, it is still smooth and sweet, with woody, fruity and floral notes reminiscent of cherry blossom.

About 8 grams each.

Brewing Guide: Make in a glass teapot for optimum enjoyment. Put one piece into tea pot, bring 2 to 3 cups of water to around 160F or when tiny bubbles begin to form at the bottom of the pot – never allow it to boil. Steep for 2 to 3 minutes or until the leaves unfurl, wait another 2 minutes before drinking. Leaves can be re-steeped, to do so increase the temperature of the water with each subsequent steeping.
