Product Overview
Yueyang Yellow Tea, particularly from Junshan Island in Hunan Province, is a distinguished example of Chinese yellow tea. Among its most famous forms is the “Junshan Silver Needle,” often pressed into compact bricks or cakes, commonly known as “Gold Bricks.” These pressed forms not only make the tea easier to store and transport, but also enhance its aging potential, gradually deepening its flavor profile over time.
The production process involves a unique step known as “menhuang,” or sealed yellowing. After the initial fixation to halt oxidation, the tea leaves are gently piled and lightly fermented under wraps. This technique gives rise to the characteristic golden-yellow liquor and soft yellow leaves. The taste is smooth, mellow, and sweet, with none of the sharpness found in green tea or the heaviness of black tea. The infusion is aromatic, fresh, and long-lasting in the mouth.
Yueyang Yellow Tea in pressed cake form is increasingly favored for both daily drinking and collection. Its elegant appearance and traditional craftsmanship make it an excellent choice for gifting and aging. As a tea steeped in heritage, it represents a unique facet of Hunan’s tea culture and has earned recognition as a Chinese national intangible cultural asset.
Brewing Guide: it is best to use water around 80 to 85 degrees Celsius. About 5 grams of tea per 200 milliliters of water will yield a balanced cup. After warming the vessel, gently pour hot water over the tea and steep for around 30 seconds on the first infusion. Each subsequent brew can be extended by 10 to 20 seconds. Typically, the tea can be infused four to six times, with a consistently smooth and sweet profile throughout.
