Product Overview

This Lapsang Souchong is a refined variation of the traditional Lapsang Souchong from Tongmu, Wuyi Mountains. While it preserves the core craftsmanship of the original, it omits the pinewood smoking step, resulting in a cleaner and fresher taste profile that appeals to modern tea drinkers.

This tea is typically made from tender buds and young leaves of the local small-leaf tea cultivar. After withering, rolling, fermentation, and careful roasting, the leaves develop a natural fragrance without smoky notes. The aroma highlights fruity, floral, and dried longan sweetness, offering a pure and elegant character.

In appearance, the Lapsang Souchong features tightly twisted, glossy dark leaves with golden tips. The infusion is a bright, clear orange-red, releasing honeyed fruit fragrance and rich sweetness. The taste is smooth, mellow, and lingering, with a soft returning sweetness and no trace of smokiness, making it widely accessible.

Its creation has enriched the diversity of Lapsang Souchong. By blending traditional techniques with modern preferences, this tea has become a popular choice for both daily enjoyment and premium gifting, admired for its balance of heritage and contemporary charm.

Brewing guide: Lapsong Souchong, a favorite of Sherlock Holmes and other fictional Britons, can be enjoyed with or without milk and sugar. The water used to steep this tea should be at the boiling point, 212F (100ºC). Use about 2 teaspoons (3 grams) of tea leaves for about every 5 ounces (150 milliliters) of water. A steeping time of about 3-5 minutes with more or less time is recommended depending on the desired concentration.

I was looking for a lapsang souchong with traditional strong pine smoky taste for my friend. I ordered this product in July 2025 because it states in it's description "Special process with heavy smoky taste". We were very disappointed that the taste of this product is exactly the same as those marked "smokeless" lapsang. What a disgrace! If you are looking for traditional lapsang souchong with strong/heavy smoky taste, DON'T buy this one. Actually I somehow lose my faith to the descriptions from this tea house.
