Product Overview

Yunnan Earl Grey is a refined variation of the classic Earl Grey, crafted by blending high-quality Dian Hong from the mountainous regions of Yunnan, China, with a touch of delicate bergamot aroma. This unique composition sets it apart from traditional Earl Grey, which typically uses Indian Assam or Ceylon teas as the base. By using Yunnan’s rich, full-bodied black tea, this blend highlights the depth and complexity of Chinese terroir while offering a more balanced and nuanced aromatic profile.

The tea leaves are sourced from the high-altitude regions of Lincang and Fengqing in Yunnan, where elevations above 1500 meters, misty climates, and dramatic day-night temperature variations contribute to the superior quality of the tea. Many of the tea gardens in this area still maintain ancient or semi-wild tea trees, especially large-leaf cultivars known for their high levels of polyphenols and amino acids.

The dry leaves are tightly rolled with a glossy dark appearance, interspersed with golden buds — the signature "golden tips" that indicate a quality Dian Hong. The aroma of the dry leaf reveals natural notes of honey, dried fruit, and light caramel, gently lifted by the soft citrusy scent of bergamot. Unlike conventional Earl Grey teas with a strong, overpowering bergamot aroma, the bergamot in this blend is intentionally subtle and elegant. It serves as an accent, allowing the full character of Yunnan black tea to shine through.

When brewed, the liquor is a brilliant reddish amber. The taste is smooth, rich, and layered with natural sweetness, malty depth, and gentle fruit and honey undertones. The bergamot floats gracefully in the background, lending a refreshing note without dominating the palate. The result is a well-balanced cup that is both comforting and refined, ideal for those who enjoy pure tea flavors with a hint of fragrance.

Brewing Guide:
Tea-to-water ratio: 3 grams of tea per 200 ml of water
Water temperature: 90°C to 95°C (just below boiling)
Steeping time: About 3 minutes for the first infusion; increase slightly for subsequent brews (can be steeped 3–5 times)
Recommended vessel: White porcelain gaiwan or glass cup to enjoy the color and aroma

Cold brew option: For a refreshing summer drink, steep 3 grams of tea in 500 ml of cold water and refrigerate for 6–8 hours. The result is a crisp, clean brew with a more pronounced citrus note and a naturally sweet finish.
